Sponsored by the Willoughby Police Department, the Public Safety Cadets Unit #6020 provides an educational resource for young males & females between the ages of 14-20, that live in and around Lake County Ohio, and are interested in law enforcement as a possible future profession.

WPD officers, dispatchers, and clerks provide training and supervision on station and in the community. Our goal is to show our youth members that law enforcement is a profession worth pursuing, and go on to study criminal justice and law enforcement in college.

Unit activities Include: training meetings, ability to achieve rank, earn awards, participate in competitions, range program, and ride-along program. Cadets also assist officers with traffic and crowd control at community involvement programs, festivals, and parades.

Our Ride-along program is certified by the International Police Chiefs Association.
